St. Barnabus Senior Services
Presenter: Martha Spinks, Ph.D., Founder and President $5,000 Grant Winner for Innovation www.sbssla.org
Founded in 1908, St. Barnabas Senior Services (SBSS) is an independent, nonsectarian, nonprofit, public benefit corporation, and Los Angeles’ oldest senior services agency. The mission of SBSS is to provide and promote a continuum of innovative services that empower a diverse community of elders to live well, feel well and age well—to do what all of us wish to do as we age: remain in our own homes and live as we choose. Among SBSS’ highly innovative programs are its Adult Day Health Care Center, specializing in the care of adults with chronic illnesses, including Alzheimer’s disease; the award-winning Cyber Café for Seniors; and social services contracts with property management companies to assist their elderly tenants to live independently. SBSS is one of six organizations in the United States featured by the National Association of Social Workers in its public education campaign as an exemplar of the profession.
SBSS is seeking $2.5 million for capital and start up expenses and a board of directors for our new enterprise—including experts in finance, health, insurance, marketing and real estate—who can help the agency implement its business plan.
